I came across a nifty little trick today (reference here) for hiding files and folders in Nautilus that you can’t move or rename, such as lost+found in a partition’s root directory. The trick is to create a text file called .hidden in the same directory as the file or folder you want to hide, and then list the file or folder name(s) (one per line) in the file. This will hide the items from view in Nautilus (giving you a ‘cleaner’ browsing experience) but will not affect the way programs can interact with these items (i.e. they will still show up in ls and can still be accessed by processes on your system).
