I mentioned earlier that I had a post ready to go, so here it is:

My apologies for having been out of commission for the past several days, its been pretty hectic. This weekend was the Corn Roast at our cottage on Paudash Lake, a yearly get-together on Labour-Day weekend (basically, its an excuse to get drunk). We also had a lot of work to do on the bunkie to get it closed in for the winter. And to top it off, Moday (today) was the only day available that Dad could move me into my new place in Toronto!

Things are starting to settle down now though, although I still don’t have any internet or phone in my place. Does anyone know Sri’s e-mail? He just moved out.. I should ask him what the dilly-o is.

Calvin ruins the day!

On Thursday afternoon we left for the cottage for the upcoming Corn Roast. Our plan was to work all day Friday and all morning Saturday on the bunkie; we wanted to have all the shingles on and all sides completely closed in. Things didn’t work out that way though. On Friday morning, Calvin came in from his morning romp outside to have some breakfast. When he tried to eat from the dish he let out this horrible yowling sound and started gagging. We left him to his own devices to solve the problem.

A while later he came back out to eat, and again let out this terrible yowl. Its now been about six hours since Calvin had last eaten, so we were getting pretty conserned. We took him to the vet in Bancroft. The vet took some X-Rays, but couldn’t really see anything so they decided to use a berylium-contrast X-Ray. Something showed up on this one, but no one could really tell what it was. The vet told us there really wasn’t anything he could do besides give Calvin an anti-inflamatory and an antibacterial, and that we should watch him over the next few hours. If he wasn’t getting any better, we’d have to take him to an emergency pet hospital in Toronto or Ottawa! Yikes!!

So we watched him, and Calvin didn’t get any better. In the end we took him down to his normal vet in Peterborough, where they did their own set of X-Rays that didn’t reveal anything. At this time Calvin was still gagging a bit, but he hadn’t made any yowling sounds in quite a while. She prescribed a liquid bandage and an antibiotic for his esophogus to help it heal, but we think whatever was stuck in there has dislodged itself. Calvin’s still gagging quite a bit, but he’s eating up a storm and playing all the time with Hobbes so everything looks good.

Beer Abounds

Saturday night brought the Corn Roast. Lots of hot-dogs and sausages and corn on the cob, plentiful mounds of deserts and sweets and treats, and gallons of pop and coolers and beer. We commandered the small island on the point and built a roaring fire. Spent most of the night there, from about 4:00 until midnight. People came and went visiting, especially those we really only get to see about once a year. Lets just say that Sunday morning was a little slow getting going.

We worked some more on the bunkie, but because Calvin took up most of Friday we didn’t finish as much as we had hoped. One half of the roof is shingled, and there’s still one wall that needs siding. Most of the hard-lifting is done, though, so my parents should have no trouble finishing off the rest over the next couple of weekends.

We loaded the booooaaaaat onto the trailer for the last time this year; after a good scrub and wax its going away into cold storage for the winter. Always a sad time to see the clear indicators of the end of summer sunshine =/

Let’s All Go To Tor-on-to!

Today I moved into my new place on Cecil, just off of Beverley. Its a 10-bedroom unit with a common kitchen area. The kitchen as 2x all appliances and there’s 5 bathrooms, so there’s plenty of space to move around. My room is a about 10′x10′, which is a goodly size. I’ve got all my stuff moved in and there’s lots of room. There’s no internet or phone as far as I can tell, but I’ll be talking to Sri to see what the deal is with that. In the meantime you can e-mail me to get my cell-phone number, or look me up on Facebook.

I’m not sold on the place yet. We’ll see how it turns out though, because I’m locked in for a twelve-month lease =/
