Monday night I was working on our latest SSD assignment. The internet is the primary means of communication amongst our team members; we have an FTP share, a wiki, and a mailing list. Well, conveniently enough, my internet cut out. Repeatedly. I fought with it for about an hour before I gave up and walked to school with my laptop (at 1:00am in the morning) to use the wireless internet available there.

When I got back in the morning, I found out why. Bell Sympatico has started throttling our “unlimited” account, limiting P2P transfer rates to 30KiB/s. /sigh.

So here’s my plan: we’ve got an existing connection in Peterborough that isn’t used much, so I’m planning on setting up a simple seedbox. A basic Linux distribution with a WebUI torrent client, and then all I have to do is SSH in and grab my downloads when their done. Thankfully, normal transfers aren’t throttled, so I’ll only be limited by the upload speed on this other connection.
