As I am sure many of you know, today marks the effort of Earth Hour, a day when people all across the world will turn out their lights for one hour, from 8:00pm to 9:00pm in their local time zone. I modified the theme a little bit to show my support for the effort (although I am not quite as intense as Google; I know some of the graphics look bad).
Tonight we are having a Blackout Party, hosted at a friend’s condo in the sky. He has a pretty good view of the downtown Toronto core, so hopefully it will be a good show. Probably my biggest gesture for this event, before I leave for the party I will be turning off my computer! This is a big deal for me.. as of yesterday my uptime was running 29 days and some-odd hours. This isn’t something I pride myself on, it’s just that there’s often reason for me to leave my computer on when I go to bed. I literally never stop running things on it, even when I’m not there.
Anyway, it will be interesting to see how the grid copes with the sudden excess of power tonight. It will also be interesting to see just how many of those big buildings downtown will throw the switch.
Other News
In other news, it is now less than one week until the premiere of Battlestar Galactica’s fourth season! Sadly, this lands on the same day as S-Dance.. we are considering having a BSG-after-party, but this still needs sorting out.
Anyway, I have errands to run and I really should get some work done on my thesis today. Ta!
