Up here in the Great White North, we have to sit by and watch in agony as other countries roll past us in mobile telephonic hardware. It takes a very long time for new phones to come to us, even when they are first released in our close neighbour, the United States.

Well, today is a good day — Telus has updated their website, listing the HTC Desire — the non-Google-branded version of the Nexus One — as “coming soon!”. One can only hope that that actually means sometime this summer. To date, every single smartphone (or, as Google would have it, “superphone”) has had something inherently wrong with it that would stop me from purchasing it — shitty screen, ugly, too big and uncomfortable, too locked-in (I’m looking at you, Apple), 3G reception issues (I’m still looking at you, Apple), just to name a few — and I’m hoping that someday, manufacturers will see fit to release a truly epic smartphone just for me. The Desire, though dated, may just qualify — I will certainly need to get my hands on it first, though.

One downside is that, with the recent AMOLED shortages, the phone will be equipped with a Sony LCD instead.
